November marks the beginning of the Mauritian austral summer, the warm and humid season that lasts until April, according to the Mauritius Meteorological Services. Average rainfall reaches 85 mm during the month, a moderate figure compared with the 164 mm recorded in December. Humidity gradually increases without yet reaching the heavier conditions of the height of summer.
As for temperatures, the average temperature during the austral summer is 24.7°C, with maximum temperatures reaching 29.2°C in January and February. November remains just below these levels, bringing warm but still comfortable days. Minimum temperatures also rise, well above the 16.4°C recorded during the heart of the austral winter. Lagoon temperatures sit around 26°C, making swimming enjoyable from sunrise to sunset.
November occupies a transitional position in the Mauritian calendar. October, the driest month of the year with 75 mm of rainfall, gives way to a tropical shower pattern: brief, heavy downpours followed by a rapid return to sunshine. This transition explains the lush green landscapes of the island’s mountains at this time of year.
The cyclone season also begins in November, from the middle of the month under the regional definition applied to Mauritius, and runs until mid-May. Activity is nevertheless concentrated much later, between January and March: November therefore statistically avoids the most intense weather events, making it a comfortable window for travelling. Rodrigues, the neighbouring island located around 600 km to the east, follows a similar seasonal pattern and can be visited under comparable weather conditions.

The cyclone season applied to Mauritius opens on 15 November and closes on 15 May, two weeks later than in the rest of the basin.
